Womble Bond Dickinson’s Ripley Rand Appointed to N.C. Lottery Commission

RALEIGH, N.C.—North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper has appointed Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Ripley Rand to the North Carolina State Lottery Commission.

Rand has more than 25 years of legal experience, including periods both as a prosecutor and as a judge. He served six years as the United States Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina during the Obama Administration and eight years as a state Superior Court Judge, presiding over thousands of criminal and civil cases throughout North Carolina. His practice focuses on criminal defense, investigations, regulatory defense, and crisis management.

Rand, a Fayetteville native, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He received his law degree with honors from the UNC School of Law. While in law school, he earned the William T. Joyner Award for Most Outstanding Published Work.

In addition to his work on the Commission, Rand currently serves as an advisory member of the North Carolina State Bar Ethics Committee and as a member of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Judicial Independence and Integrity Committee. He has also been a member of the Board of Visitors of UNC-CH and the North Carolina Sports Development Commission.
